SEQUOIA HIGH SIERRA CAMP FACT SHEET
LOCATION: Sequoia High Sierra Camp is located within Giant Sequoia National Monument, which is on Sequoia National Forest land between Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park. The Camp is tucked among Red Fir, Lodgepole and Ponderosa Pine at 8,282 ft. elevation.

SEASON: General season ranges from Mid-June to October (weather permitting). 2012 dates are planned for June 15 to October 1.
OWNED AND OPERATED BY: Privately owned and operated by Burr and Suzanne Hughes. After purchasing 40 acres of land in 2000 - designed, built and oversee the camp's management.
HISTORY: Sequoia High Sierra Camp opened in 2006, targeting outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate a backcountry camping experience with upscale amenities and distinctive cuisine. The wilderness oasis set amidst the stunning scenery of California's Giant Sequoia National Monument features 32 luxury canvas bungalows and thoughtful guest amenities.
ACCOMMODATIONS: The 32 canvas bungalows, each approximately 330 square feet (14' x 24'), feature canvas walls and roof, concrete floors, metal doors and screened windows. All are fitted with coffee table, chairs and bedside table, plus reading lanterns, plush-top beds, down feather pillows, triple-sheeted linens and Pendleton wool blankets and rugs. Bungalows are a short walk from the dining pavilion and restroom and private shower facilities. Each comfortably accommodates two adults, with additional bedding provided for children under the age of 12. Towels and toiletries (shampoo, soap, lotion) are provided; plus daily maid service.
MEALS: Three daily meals are included with each nightly stay. The Mediterranean/Creole inspired cuisine incorporates seasonal, local ingredients into healthy, five-star menu options; vegetarian and vegan dishes are optional at each meal.
Sample menu items include: Breakfast: fresh fruits, hot and cold cereals, egg dishes, potatoes and breakfast meats. Muffins are made from scratch daily in the Camp kitchen.
Lunch: Pack an on-the-go picnic with choice of freshly made sandwiches, fruits, high protein snacks and beverages.
Dinner: Items change daily - Baby spinach salad with warm bacon vinaigrette, grilled endive salad, Italian antipasti with grilled zucchini and fennel; filet of tilapia on bed of Yukon gold potatoes, gorgonzola stuffed filet mignon with truffle mashed potatoes, muscovy duck breast with wild mushroom polenta; warm chocolate molten cake, bread pudding with spiced New Orleans rum sauce, creme brulee and fresh berries.
VISITOR ACTIVITIES: Day hikes traverse old growth forests and meadows. Fly fishing (limited equipment available at the Camp), wildlife watching (black bears, deer, marmots, birds), wildflower walks and photography opportunities abound.
REACHING THE CAMP: Guests can drive their own car to a trailhead for a 1-mile trek into Sequoia High Sierra Camp (recommended), or they can elect to hike along an 12-mile backcountry trail to the Camp (challenging - average hike takes 8 hours). PERMITS: No wilderness permits are needed for guests staying at the Sequoia High Sierra Camp.
RATES: $250 per night, per person rates (based on double occupancy) includes lodging, three meals each day, personal toiletries and use of bedding and towels. Solo travelers can be accommodated (based on space availability) at $300 per person, per night.
